The magnetic resonance imaging, also known as MRI, is an exceptionally effective diagnostic method. By using magnetic fields and radio waves, an MRI scan is able to map a patient's organs, bones and tissues.
Particularly in diagnosing cancer, an MRI provides an excellent opportunity to not only diagnose existing cancer but also determining the 'stages' of the tumorous cells. In diagnosing colon cancer, an MRI instead of a MSCT can be performed and, especially in cases with young patients, is very helpful if they have signs of an inflamed colon in diagnosing diseases such as Crohn's disease.
A MRI can also be very effective in diagnosing cardiovascular disease caused by heart muscle or blood vessels disorders.
One area where the MRI is particularly effective is in diagnosing musco-skeletal changes. With the use of an MRI, an examining physician can clearly differentiate between bones, soft tissue and cartilage such that degenerative changes can be easily identified and a clear diagnosis can be made and an appropriate and effective treatment plan begun.
