The mammogram has traditionally been the most reliable method for the early detection of breast cancer. Breast cancer has now become the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 35 and 55 - in total almost 1 out of 10 women will, during the course of their lifetime, be affected by the disease. Therefore, regular breast examinations are needed.
Digital mammogram - early detection
In our practice, we regularly use a digital mammogram in the early identification and diagnosis of breast cancer. The advantages of a digital mammogram, as opposed to other methods, are the higher image resolution and the reduced radiation. With a digital mammogram, almost minute, indiscernible cells can be identified which, in many instances, are the first indications of tumorous development in the breast tissue.
Currently, mammograms, in conjunction with regular self breast examinations are the best methods for detecting breast cancer early. Since young woman can also be affected with breast cancer, a digital mammogram should be performed regularly as of 35 years old.
